Omaha Aksarben Knights
I finally got my first taste of hockey for the season thursday night at the Omaha Aksarben Knights preseason home game. Man was it great. Well, a win would have been better...and the announcer was kind of lame. I'm not sure why they feel the need to use a DJ as the stadium voice...especially Lester St. James. There's a reason I don't listen to Z92 in the afternoon.
Aside from the afforementioned the game was a blast. Carson Germyn, who is quickly becoming my favorite player, started the game by getting a 4-minute double minor only 3 seconds into the game. Later in the second period he resorted to fisticuffs and although he hit the ice first, he definitely landed more punches and only fell as a result of being a smaller guy getting whipped around.
The most amazing move came from McKenna, our goalie, who after blocking a shot into the air lost sight of the puck. Finally he spots it as it is dropping behind his back. Rather than spin around and risk accidentally knocking the shot in himself he whips his glove-hand behind him and snags it blind. It was crazy! Had the game been televised, that would have been all over sportscenter...oh wait. ESPN hates hockey. Maybe not then.
